Fasting Instructions

Most of our patients choose to receive light sedation during injection. But you do have the option of opting-out and receiving injection with local anesthesia without sedation.

Patients NOT receiving sedation

• You do not need to fast

Fasting for patients receiving light sedation

• You can drink clear fluids up to 2 hours before the injection. Clear fluids include: water, carbonated beverages (any kind of soda), and black tea or coffee (sweetened).

• These liquids should not include alcohol.

• You should fast for 8 hours if the meal includes solids.

Medication Instructions

• Do not stop any medication without consultation with your primary physician.

• Please inform Dr. Goswami, if you are taking blood thinning or antiplatelet medication.

• Plavix should be stopped 7 days before the injection.

• Medication such as Coumadin should be stopped 5 - 6 days before the injection.

COVID Guidelines

As per NJ department of health guidelines. You have to test negative for COVID (RT-PCR), 6 days prior to the injection. Our office can help you with getting a COVID test. Please discuss with Dr. Goswami.

On the day of the procedure

• Plan to be at the surgery center at least 30 minutes before the scheduled injection.
• An anesthesiologist will interview you & explain the anesthetic plan.
• Come with a family member and do not plan to drive on the day of the injection. Plan to have an easy day after the injection
• After the procedure you will rest and recover for sometime in the recovery area.
• We will schedule a follow-up appointment with Dr. Goswami.
